My Review:

I received this book as a gift and the synopsis made it sound pretty interesting so, dispite my looming and glaring TBR pile, I decided to give it a read. I was not disappointed! (And have even ordered the second book in the series. Sorry, TBR!!)

The characters were all so unique and well-developed that I feel like they must actually exist in some alternate universe. I loved getting to know all of them. I especially enjoyed learning about Kai and how she understands the world, especially while she works around the memories she doesn’t have. Also, she’s full of snark and sass and it made my dark little soul happy to see her fearlessly face off with both humans and Infinite who could destroy her.

The world is dystopian in a way I don’t think I’ve read before. The way Lori M. Lee works the details into the story is nearly seamless and absolutely stunning. Before I realized it, I was swept away into a stunning and unique world that incorporates several different settings. I can confidently say that Gates of Thread and Stone is thoroughly immersive.

The story itself is beautiful and I really enjoyed watching the whole thing unfold. Some of the turns in storytelling were predictable, but there were a few that I did not see coming at all. I absolutely loved and hated it. It was awesome.

The adventure that Kai goes on is almost as important as the reason she goes on it. The whole story highlights familial love, even if that family is not of your blood. I may have bumped this up on my TBR ahead of some major backlist titles, but I regret nothing. Gates of Thread and Stone has dystopian dictatorship, adventure, magic, and a slow-burn romance. What more could I need? The next book, which I have already ordered and will be reading soon.

Overall, I rate Gates of Thread and Stone 4 out of 5 bookworms.
