The Mid-Year Freakout Tag

Hey, bookworms! I was (sort of) tagged by Rea at deadwritersclub to do The Mid-Year Freakout Tag. Go check out her answers to the tag here (after reading my answers, of course)! If you feel like doing it, I tag Katie and thebooksupplier and whoever else reading this that wants to complete the tag. Lets do this thingy!

One. The best book you’ve read so far in 2017

That’s tough because I’ve read so many amazing books so far this year. The best so far is a tie between The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, How To Make A Wish by Ashley Herring Blake, and When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. They’re all stunningly written novels with beautiful representation. If you haven’t read them, definitely pick them up!

Two. Your favourite sequel this year

I have trouble remembering more than a few books back unless they really stood out for me. Right now I’ll have to say The Dragons of Nova by Elise Kova, which comes out 11 July. It’s one of those “one more chapter” books where you one more chapter yourself into oblivion and I really enjoyed reading it.

Three. A new release that you haven’t read but really want to

Want by Cindy Pon! I keep hearing so many amazing things about this book and I really would love to read it.

Four. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

There are some amazing books scheduled to release during the second half of this year, but above all 27 Hours by Tristina Wright. Hands down. No contest. QUEER TEENS IN SPACE WHAT COULD BE BETTER (That was rhetorical. Nothing could be better. Obviously.)

Five. Your biggest disappointment

I was really disappointed reading The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. It’s so hyped up and then just… I don’t know. It just didn’t live up to my expectations at all. I probably won’t finish the series because the writing just isn’t for me.

Six. Biggest surprise of the year

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi. Oh. My. Gosh. Who expects the sequel/companion novel to be twice as good as the first novel? Not me, that’s who.

Seven. Favourite new-to-you or debut author

This question is just so unfair because all of my favourites this year are new-to-me or debut authors and I LOVE ALL OF THEM EQUALLY! I’ve been sitting on this question for five minutes and still….drawing a blank. They’re all wonderful.

Eight. Your new fictional crush

I don’t usually do fictional crushes, partly because I find it weird as a concept and partly because I read a lot of YA and NA and as an adult I feel like having an actual crush on a character in these books would be weird? In my mind “book boyfriends” and “book girlfriends” are like a “if we were the same age,” which is great but just…it’s not a compulsion I have. Also, that’s an entirely different conversation that I could likely fill an entire post about.

Nine. New favourite character

DIMPLE! Girls who are more obsessed with tech and programming and coding and their own career than they are with finding the perfect boyfriend while still supporting their friends’ needs? GIVE. ME. MORE!

Ten. A book that made you cry

A Torch Against The Night by Sabaa Tahir. No, I don’t want to talk about it.

Eleven. A book that made you happy

I’ve read lots of feel-good this year and I’m trying not to reuse books too many times on this list…. so….. The Alchemists of Loom. Chick loves chick while loving mechanics and destroying as much as possible. Are you seeing a pattern yet?

Twelve. Your favourite book to movie adaptation you’ve seen this year

I haven’t watched many really so I’m sure it won’t surprise many of you that I’m choosing Harry Potter. We watch those in my house A LOT.

Thirteen. Favourite book post you’ve published this year

It still definitely needs some tweaking and I’ll probably start doing something weekly to be more specific, but I’m pretty proud of my list post of ownvoices queer books. It makes me happy to see all of it in one spot! (You can find that here.)

Fourteen. The most beautiful book you have bought/received this year

I won an ARC of Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza and the cover of it is just GORGEOUS!!

Fifteen. What are some books you need to read by the end of the year?

Um… Well if I don’t read the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, I can think of at least three people who will hunt me down and duct tape me to a chair while I read it so… definitely those! I also want to finish Chameleon Moon by RoAnna Sylver. It’s really good so far, but I’m reading more than one book at a time, which means it’s taking FOREVER. I would also like to read The Alchemists of Loom book 3 when it becomes available in the winter. What else? The world may never know. Unless you look at my TBR on Goodreads and then you’ll understand why I’m twiddling my thumbs a bit on writing out a full list.

That’s it! That was super duper fun so thank you so much for tagging me, Rea!! Hopefully I’ll probably post something in the next couple of days to let you all know what’s going on. That may or may not be in my June Wrap-Up. I haven’t decided yet!

I hope your week is going wonderfully! Much bookish love and I’ll see you next time.
